2008 Duck hunting
We have seen the first couple Canada Geese yesterday flying north over the big lake Winnipegosis. I don't know where they are going because we have 2 ft of snow yet and 4 ft of ice? I am optimistic it is a sign of spring.
We are very excited about this coming fall and our Waterfowl hunts. We have even discovered a new lake that we have brought a boat to for fishing big Northern Pike this spring and Hunting Ducks this fall.
We don't know of anyone who has hunted that lake before and are very happy to have found an easy access to it. We always saw birds flying that way and wondered where they were going. Now we know, and will be ready for them. Our area is a very remote location along Lake Winnipegosis which is a historical Flyway. Picture a lake running North and South 190 miles with a huge marsh and small lakes connected by several large rivers half way down. The river system is really a maze that still makes me scratch my head when i get in the marsh. You really want to know where you are going with cattails and bulrushes 8 ft high around you. Travel through the marsh will lead you to many little lakes and openings that the ducks can't stay out of. We are talking hundreds of acres of marsh all interrupted by Islands, swamps, lakes and rivers.
Certain weather and times of day will dictate where we set up for the birds. We also hunt the big lake and it's many bays and islands. When it comes to location, no place on earth can beat ours. If we don't have ducks, nobody has ducks. The pictures show a small example of where we hunt ducks just to give an idea of the vastness of our location.
We have also been focusing on our Field Goose Hunting Trips. We have purchased more equipment including decoys, layout blinds and atv's to make our hunts enjoyable. The feild goose hunts do require 1 hours travel in the mornings but it is worth it. We hunt the Parkland area around Lake Dauphin and Winnipegosis. I personally know many land owners in the area and have permission to hunt many very hot grain fields. I recommend booking one Goose Hunt on a 5 day hunt if you are looking for a change of pace from ducks. We typically hunt Geese in the mornings and then return to the Lodge for an afternoon of duck hunting.
Now if hunting diver ducks is on your agenda, specifically Canvasbacks, Redheads, and Scaup, look no further. We have an honest 14 species of ducks but the divers are predominant species providing many of trophy's and memories. Did i mention an 8 bird daily limit! No species restrictions here, but we have a friendly lodge rule of Drakes only. But in all honesty we have eaten quite a few hens. It's a friendly rule.
Every year has presented us different challenges which we overcome and learn from the experience. In nature nothing is consistent and we have developed our skills and equipment to be flexible for Safety and an enjoyable hunt. Success is never guaranteed but we definitely emphasize the odds are favorable.
Have a look at www.huntriverside.com and compare us to anywhere else, you will be interested.
We also understand the current exchange rate is not great and we have introduced some hunt specials as a result. Great deals on group bookings and youth hunters.
