Flood update

July 03, 2013 by

The water level is dropping, fast, which is great. It came up about 7 ft, put our new dike to the test. Worked excellent and felt good to see it part all that rushing water, whoch would have been rushing through our yard and house if it was unprotected. What a heck of a mess and inconveinience though!!!! Terrible mess afterwards, standing water that stinks and kills all the trees etc. Mud, lots of mud, everywhere the water ran. Still had to run gas pumps as the water was seeping in from under ground as the water table was real high all around the property. Had to babysit the basement sump pump as it was kicking in every 3 miutes, thankfully the power stayed on. And the latest,,,,, dead carp!!! Lots of dead carp, which my dogs have discovered and think it is a great trophy to bring back into the yard, maggots and all! Just lovely, the smell of dead fish, carp none the less, rotting in the bushes around us. That should attract some skunks and coons the coming days. Floods, they just keep on giving.

Joanne and the kids went away for the weekend while i stayed and watched the pumps and river. Since nobody can tell us what to expect being at the end of the river, it was a little unnerving. We made out fine all in all.

Manitoba Flood Forecasters sent out a bulletin telling us that we may see Lake levels same as in 2011. That would be terrible and i pray it doesn't rain for a long while.

It may be something we will have to just get used to, June flooding. I guess it could always be worse.

I wonder how long the dock and boats can stay in the water this time? No hurry to go launch anything yet, still a fast flowing river of mud out there. There can't be much dirt left in the fields west of us, it's all here in the lake.

That's all so far, extreme weather prevails, maybe another tornado in July?
