Tuff but good Manitoba Bear Hunting
The first 2 weeks of spring bear hunting was tuff due to a record breaking late spring. Weather conditions were terrible right up to the middle of May. We shuffled and juggled our hunt schedule to have our bookings moved later in the month as 1 week later can make all the difference for better bear activity. We ended up hosting 8 hunters who could not move their hunt plans. We were worried that the lakes and rivers would still be frozen and bears would be "hard to find". Luckily the ice did melt and we were able to get to our baits. Still, we found that spring green up hadn't happened yet and the bear actvity was hindered.
Now,i have to say it myself. We are getting very good at this "job", of hunting bears. Understanding what makes a bear do what, when, where and why takes years of experience, a good amount of knowledge on the grounds that nature operates and an open mind willing to learn new things and accept when you are wrong. Beware the man who thinks he knows it all, as there is no such man.
I am not going to share what i have learned/learning with just anybody, for sure not accross the internet. But, if you happen to come hunt with us, during a time when the hunting is more difficult than usual, i may feel inclined to explain what and why, and in doing so, get a bear infront of you at the bait.
Out of the 8 hunters so far this spring, all but 1 killed a bear. The 1 who didn't shoot saw multiple bears, EVEN A BLONDE! But none were the size he wished to take home. Gotta appreciate that.
100% oportunity, 10+ hunters to go yet this spring, stay tuned.
